Programmes & Courses > Foundation DegreeFoundation DegreeThe Foundation Degree in Mission & Ministry is a new degree offered by Wesley College. It is the means by which anyone practicing a ministry in the church can give their discipleship a good theological basis and gain a formal qualification at the same time. In order to admit students in day-time employment, the teaching sessions at Wesley College are in the evenings and weekends where residential facilities are readily available. There is one week-long residential school each year. The degree is designed to equip the ministry of the whole people of God. It is therefore aimed at anyone, of any denomination, offering their time in the service of the church: For the Methodist Church it is particularly suitable for lay employee ministries with youth and community, for Local Preachers, those in leadership roles and those who want to take advantage of the new EDEV (Extending Discipleship, Exploring Vocation) initiative. It is also an option for a non-residential course for pre-ordination training. For other denominations it offers opportunities for those engaged in similar ministries such as lay reader (Anglican) and Church Related Community Worker (URC). It is also an opportunity for those engaged in pioneer and 'fresh expression' ministries to share their experience with others and ground it in Biblical, and theological study.' The degree combines academic study with guided reflection on practical ministerial experience. It can be taken over a minimum of two years or up to four years if necessary. The degree involves a mix of teaching, and seminars, both in-class and on-line, plus recording and reflecting on local ministerial involvement. The Foundation Degree in Mission & Ministry is validated by St Mary's University College, Twickenham, a Christian foundation. It can be taken as a separate qualification in its own right, with options of entry with exemptions and exit at certificate level after year one, depending on circumstances. Students on this degree have access to the facilities at Wesley College: an excellent theological Library of about 30,000 volumes, study bedrooms and an on-site restaurant. Students must have as a minimum GCSE in English or equivalent. Students whose first language is not English must have an IELTS score of 6 or above in all categories. Ideally students should have studied at A level or equivalent. However those with lesser qualifactions may be admitted on the basis of an interview with College staff. On completion of the Foundation Degree students who achieve a merit grade or above have the option to progress onto a Bachelors Degree at St Marys University College Twickenham. This is subject to entry requirements of St Marys University College. |
