Academic Staff > Revd Dr Peter Hatton

Revd Dr Peter HattonPeter was born in Northern Ireland but, after a spell in Germany, was raised and educated in York. He read the English Literature Tripos in Cambridge and worked as a banker in the City before training for the Methodist Ministry at Wesley College where he took a second degree in Theology at Bristol University. He worked as a Minister for twenty-three years before joining the staff at Wesley, serving a variety of churches from small rural chapels to large urban causes. He has also served as a part-time hospice chaplain and on the Faith and Order Committee of the British Methodist Church. Peter's academic work has focussed on the wisdom literature of the Old Testament. His PhD thesis on the Book of Proverbs was published in 2008 by Ashgate as Contradiction in the Book of Proverbs: The Deep Waters of Counsel. Peter is married to Susan who works as an advisor on the care of people on the Autistic Spectrum for a major healthcare company. He enjoys cycling and walking the dog (not at the same time, needless to say).
