Programmes of Study > Extending Discipleship, Exploring Vocation (EDEV)

Extending Discipleship, Exploring Vocation (EDEV) is the name given to a new initiative by the Methodist Church, starting in Septemebr 2008, to help develop and discern the ministry of the whole people of God. Thr primary responsibility for delivering this scheme is with Methodist Districts and Circuits and two new posts have been created to help them in this task. These are the District Development Enabler (DDE) and the Regional Training Officer (TO), one for each District.

Wesley College is well placed to serve the needs of EDEV in the South-West by providing resources (tutors and teaching facilities) and its wide range of courses.

The 'ED' part, 'Extending Discipleship', is open to all whether in a church-recognised ministry (lay or ordained)or not. The courses and degrees at Wesley are appropriate for the ordained ministry (diaconal and presbyteral) as part of the Methodist CDIM (Continuous Development in Ministry)scheme.

The 'EV' part 'Exploring Vocation' is for those wishing to discern a calling to a recognised ministry (lay or ordained). It replaces the Foundation Training scheme. Wesley College has run Foundation Training and is offering its services to help run the new 'EV' scheme.

For those wanting to extend their discipleship by developing their skills and understanding in theology, ministry, mission, Bible study, liturgy, pastoral care and church leadership there are courses at Wesley that cover all these, subject to sufficent numbers registering to make a viable learning experience. Study units can be taken individually or packaged together for a recognised qualification at certificate, diploma and various degree level.
